One of my students (Nick Nunez) was a cage fighter and the former light heavy weight champion of the TFA (Total Fighting Alliance). He is a purple belt in Brazilian Jujitsu. I told him I could defeat anything he knew about ground fighting in just four moves. I then let him try to apply triangles, rear naked chokes, heel locks you name it. I used techniques you or your mother could perfect in less than a month to stop him. The techniques won’t win a competition (they’re illegal), they will let you survive a street fight, mugging, bashing or rape (without a weapon). The four techniques I prefer are the:
BITE EYE GOUGE FISH HOOK SKIN GRAB I started with the simplest technique first. Everyone knows how to Bite. Just the shock of being bitten (did not break the skin, no real damage) was enough to get Nick to let go. Most Brazilian Jujitsu Techniques leave you in a position to bite. Eye gouges are also simple. Place your hand on the face. Put your finger in an eye. Scoop out the eye. A Fish hook is applied by placing a finger, fingers or thumb into the mouth. The fingers are put in the mouth between the teeth and cheek. The cheek is then hooked. You now control the assailants head. Where the head goes the body follows. (Matt Damon used this technique in the movie "The Bourne Supremacy", I had only seen it on the street. In fact, if you want visuals of what we teach, that movie gives a good depiction) Skin grabs are a technique I have used successfully at least twenty times on the street. Reach over and grab your shirt sleeve. Material will be caught in your fist. Now twist your hand so that your finger tips are no longer next to your arm. Your finger tips are now facing toward the front of your body. Grab an assailant this way on the back of the arm, love handle, inside of the thigh or side of the neck. You will get their attention and compliance. Because these four techniques are so brutal they are not practiced in most self defense classes. They must be practiced or you won’t remember them when you are stressed. They can be practiced without causing injury to your training partner. To practice bites put your mouth in position and yell bite. To practice the eye gouge only place your finger on the eye and yell gouge. Use some hand sanitizer and do the fish hook. Skin grab your training partner gently. The safest place is on the back of the arm. (If they remain relaxed it’s not as painful) Practice these techniques enough and it will become automatic. If you want to be sure you are applying these techniques with minimum effort/maximum effect stop by The Corona Self Defense Company for a free, no pressure, class.
