SELF DEFENSE
The Corona Self Defense Company specialises in Self-Defense: Our school is one of more than fifty affiliated
schools of 'The Self Defense Company' in the United States and world wide. There are many forms of Martial Arts to choose from:
Judo, Brazilian Jujitsu, Karate, Kempo, Kung Fu, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Tae Kwon Do and Tai Chi to name a few. Our techniques
are from WW II American Combatives and Close Quarter Combat (CQC).
What makes us different?
First, we are a small school. We do not allow more than fifteen people to enroll in our adult class. We do not allow more than ten,
children to enroll in a class. We have children's classes for 3 - 5 year olds (Panda's) and 6 -1 0 year olds (Monkeys) and 11 - 14 year
olds (Tigers).
Why is this important to you?
It means you or your child will get more individualized attention, you will get what you need to learn and learn it faster. It means that
your child is safer because or the individualized attention and that the other people in class are closer to their size and physical ability.
Other schools mention average class size to fool you. They know that on any given day only one third to one half of all registered
students show up. It means that if they tell you the average class size is 20 students, you or your child may find yourself in a class of
40 to 60 people.
What makes us different?
We teach an effective and efficient method of self defense. What we teach does not have to be modified in any way to make it
effective. Martial Arts Styles like Tae Kwon Do and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) are meant for competition. Karate, Kempo and Kung Fu
are cultural arts. They all can be adapted for use in self defense. They also require strength, speed, flexibility and athletic ability to be
effective.
Why is this important to you?
It means that those things that you took the time, money and effort to learn at the Corona Self Defense will be exactly what you need
to defend yourself and loved ones. It means that if you are sick, injured, handicapped or get older you will still have effective
techniques to use.
What makes us different?
Our techniques are effective against a larger, stronger, faster an or younger aggressor. What about Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido and
Tai Chi, aren't they effective even if you are smaller and weaker than your opponent.? Don't you use your opponents strength against
him? Yes and yes, this is generally true of most styles known as soft styles. What is also true it can take a year to ten years of study in
these styles to be proficient enough to use them for self defense. Because of the intricate nature of these styles they are also more
perishable. What do I mean by that. That in a high pressure situation that unless the techniques learned have been practiced on a
regular basis they will not be effective.
Why is this important to you?
When will you or your child need self defense skills, tomorrow, two years from now or twenty years from now. If you take a class at the
Corona Self Defense Company tomorrow, you will have knowledge and skills you will be able to use tomorrow. In each class of our
basic course you will learn skills that you will be able to put to use immediately. Children are taught how to deal with bullies, stop
abduction attempts and what to do and not do if they are at home alone. The skills you will learn will have a longer shelf life and can
be more easily maintained. If you are a busy professional you may not want to practice every day or come for lessons every week. You
can do what others have found to be effective and efficient use of their time, money and effort. They take ten weeks to learn the
system thoroughly and then come back every six months to a year for a tune-up.
What makes us different?
In our basic class for adults there are no uniforms or second language to learn. We don't believe in Kata's or Tournaments.
Corona Self Defense teaches three forms of self-defense. One is physical – you will improve your strength, flexibility, and overall
health. Additionally, you will learn to strike with tremendous power and effectiveness. Hopefully, you will never need to fight. . .But
should the occasion arise, shouldn't you know how to protect yourself and those you care about? The second form of self-defense is
technology, we teach the proper use of mace, personal alarms Tasers and stun guns. The third form of self-defense lessons at
Corona Self Defense are internal. Our students learn to spot danger and avoid dangerous people, places and activities. Children
learn to set physical boundaries while using 'NO' and 'STOP IT'. O Corona Self Defense lessons can help you and your children
avoid the need for a physical confrontation. This third form of self-defense is probably the most valuable of the three.
Why is this important to you?
If learning self defense is your goal we again come back to being effective and efficient in the use of your time, money and effort.
Most self-defense programs only cover one or two aspects of self defense, we cover three aspects of self defense. If in the future
you want to go forward and achieve a Black Belt our advanced programs are geared to that. If your goal is to cage fight or compete in
tournaments you should go to another school.
You will lose weight
The Corona Self Defense Company will hep you lose weight. You can expect major changes in your body with our
classes: You'll burn tons of calories, build muscle, and in general, get your metabolism kicked into high gear. Our work-outs are a
great way to help you shed those unwanted pounds. Additionally, you'll reshape your body. Your arms, legs, and waistline are going to
become more toned.
What makes us different?
Most Martial Arts Schools do line drills. Line drills are exercise sessions in which all the students line up and do the same exercise for
a standard set of repetitions. If you attend a Kick Boxing Class you get a good cardiovascular workout. At our school we do high
intensity interval circuit training. This sort of training is available in some gyms one nationally known gym that uses this approach is
'Curves'.
Why is this important to you?
You do each circuit as an individual with encouragement from the instructor. If your not in shape you will be given the easiest variation
of the exercise for that particular station. You will not be embarrassed or discouraged because you can't keep up with others in the
class.
If you are in good shape you will get in better shape doing new and unique exercises at your pace. Interval training revs up your
metabolism, because of that you burn twice as many calories as you would in a Kick Boxing Class. An even though you can get this
type of workout in a good gym, you won't have the added benefit of being able to defend yourself.
Improve your health
The Corona Self Defense Company Improves Your Health: Our Lessons will dramatically improve your cardiovascular
health. Your resting heart rate will come down and your ability to maintain an increased heart rate will increase. Your stress levels will
be reduced. You'll breath better, sleep better, and even feel an increase in energy and effectiveness all day long. You may even
discover you're more resistant to colds and flu. Plus even when you do become sick, your recovery time will be better than ever.
Positive Attitude
The Corona Self Defense Company instills Positive Attitudes: Our programs are designed to be positive and
inspirational. We'll keep you motivated and thinking about progress and goals. Our staff and students area all success oriented and
focused on looking for the good in all situations. You can expect to go home from class with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.
Self-Confidence
The Corona Self Defense Company develops Self-Confidence: It's true, people who take lessons from The Corona
Self Defense Company develop better self-confidence. You'll be encouraged to take chances, to push yourself further than you ever
thought possible. The success you experience through our program teaches you that you can be successful at anything if you truly
believe you can. Improved confidence leads to better performance at work, a better circle of friends, better performance in sports and in
extracurricular activities in general. Your improved self-confidence will help you deal with all of life's challenges with a more positive
outlook.
What a Martial Arts expert has to say:
So, what ARE they looking for in a self-defense program? If you’re thinking “MMA", think again. There’s no denying that MMA
(when modified for the street) can be a brutally effective method of self-defense. However, brutal is the key word here. The
average executive/housewife/professional does not want to get hurt taking self-defense lessons. They’ve seen “The Ultimate
Fighter” and know that MMA training is rough.
But, they still want self-defense training that is proven to work and easy to learn.
If you want to know what I teach my private clients when they need realistic, practical, proven self-defense skills they can learn in
a fraction of the time it takes to get good at traditional martial arts, you need look no further than good ole’ WW II American
combatives and CQC. No BS, no rituals, and a good quality curriculum will only teach the mean, nasty stuff that a law-abiding
civilian needs to protect their family and loved ones.
The problem is that most people who have legitimate training in WW II American Combatives don’t talk about it or don’t share it
publicly.

What some of students have to say:
In March, 2008 I attended a one-hour Self-Defense Class taught by Ty Talbert in Corona. Not only did I find it to be very informative
and practical, but the following week I was able to use one of the techniques he'd taught us to stop a man following me.
To be honest, I was uncomfortable hearing about crimes such as car-jackings, personal attacks, etc. but the reality of the world
we live in makes it necessary that we become educated about ways we can protect ourselves and our families.
Ty is an excellent teacher and was gentle with us women who were a little frightened of the topic itself. I highly recommend this
course to anyone.
Rev. Diana Wright - 1st Presbyterian Church - Corona CA
As a 5-ft-1-in, 105 lbs female, I have always been singled out by unsavory characters. I decided that my New Years resolution
would be too mentally and physically strengthen myself.
After talking to Ty and explaining my situation he told me size and strength wouldn't’t matter with the techniques he would show
me. After the first few classes I walked away feeling more confident and physically capable of putting up a good fight should I run
into another unsavory character. I am grateful that I finally found a form of self defense that can accommodate my small stature.
I encourage all women to think about where they spend their next dollar. All I ask is the next time you are considering or buying
an expensive purse or new clothes think about how much your life is worth to you. No one will value your life more than you do."
Veronica C. - 33 - Corona CA
"In addition to being a skilled traditional martial artist, Ty is one of the top self-defense experts in Southern California. I have been
his friend, practice partner, and student for a while now, and there are many times that I've been amazed at the precision and
adaptability of his techniques.
His skills are not based on dead, stylized techniques; rather, they have been honed through more than 30 years of training and
actual physical confrontations. On most occasions when we practiced together, I'd try to outsmart him, but he always managed
to affect a decisive outcome in his favor. His fighting method is based on sound body mechanics and efficient movement,
resulting in intuitive self-defense skills.
I encourage anyone interested in self-defense not only to attend his class, but to speak to him personally. You'll find that he's an
excellent friend and a formidable fighter."
Joe A. - Riverside CA - Tai Chi Instructor, Kyokushin Karate, Stick fighting, Bagua and Xinyi Practitioner
“I just wanted to say thanks to Ty Talbert for making available a real self defense course.” I've had previous martial arts training
and it fell way short in the real world of self defense.
In my first class it was painfully clear that my previous training did almost nothing to prepare me for the cold hard world. This
course is truly amazing; I learned skills in my very first class that I could actually apply that very night. I felt instantly more
confident and comfortable about my ability to protect myself and family.
The classes are kept small so you receive personal training. Mr. Talbert runs a dynamic high energy class that is very welcoming
to all ages, physical abilities and genders.
I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to increase their situational awareness, feel safer and wants to be able to
protect themselves and their family from the bad element.”
Finally a self defense class that teaches you how to actually to defended yourself!!!!
Thanks

"Thank you so much for all that you have taught me! One of the comments that I have heard from you and my other martial
arts/military instructors over the years that really stuck with me is, do whatever you can do to get out of the situation - alive.
Understand that I am a father of three, soon to be four children.
I now have a different perspective of self defense. I can no longer afford to let my pride and temper get the best of me. When you
are faced with a situation where you have no choice but to act, you have taught me to switch on and deal with the threat as
necessary.
Not only have you taught me to enjoy this incredible self defense program, but you have taught me knowledge that can be used to
keep myself and my loved ones safe."
Craig F.- 35 - Corona, CA - Medical Technician
"While my wife and I where waiting to be seated in a local seafood restaurant, at Dos Lagos three teenage boys where making a
nuisance of themselves. The situation was aggravating everyone in line.
I grabbed hold of the oldest of the three in the special way you have taught me. I could tell by the surprised look on his face that I
really got his attention. I asked him to move on, and take his friends with him. He did."
